Founded in 1991, the National Breast Cancer Research Institute is a national charity that raises funds in support of world-class breast cancer research at the National University of Ireland Galway. By funding this research, we aim to positively impact future outcomes for breast cancer patients. Our vision is to enhance quality of life and provide better outcomes for all breast cancer patients through new discoveries in prevention and cure.


The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an Operations Manager to join a Galway based not-for-profit company. Operating under the direction of the Board, the Operations Manager will be responsible for the management and direction of the company charity and will ensure that all strategic and operational objectives are achieved. The Operations Manager will be responsible for Management, Governance, Finance and Legal Compliance, Policy and Planning, and will manage a team who are engaged in Fundraising, Marketing and Community Engagement.


Person Specification

We are seeking an experienced individual with drive and determination, willingness to lead on delivering the vision and demonstrating the impact of the charity.  The Operations Manager should have the ability to become a champion and spokesperson, be a good relationship-builder and possess a willingness to pursue new project activities and be in a position to track impact and develop an evidence base to guide policy and future activities of the charity.

The Operations Manager on the direction of the Board of Directors will assume joint responsibility for the development and success of the charity company. The role will be characterised by the reciprocal relationship between both and will operate as follows:

The Board will delegate responsibility for the management and operations to the Operations Manager. The Operations Manager shall have the authority to carry out these responsibilities in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board. The Operations Manager shall provide direction and guidance to the Board as it carries out its governance functions. Both the Operations Manager and Board will share the main goals and aspirations the company: Realising the vision, mission and values; Remaining relevant and responsive to the community while pursuing this vision and being transparent, compliant, and accountable in all areas.

Reporting Arrangements

The post holder will report directly to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute Board and will have regular contact with the Chairperson and the Director of the Research Programme at the Lambe Institute.

The post holder will be responsible for managing a team of 3 staff.
