Celtic Warriors Against Breast Cancer

Lauren Gallagher from Gurteen in Sligo and Jake Tiernan from Shannon, Co. Clare took on the Celtic Warrior Half Marathon in Mullingar recently and raised a fantastic €5,000 for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.

Breast cancer had affected Lauren’s family directly in the last year as her mother Lorraine was diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer in July 2023. It has been a long journey of chemotheraphy, surgeries, and radiotheraphy. Thankfully the cancer was removed, but her Mum she is still undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

Attending the cheque presentation of €5,000 to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute were; Evanne Gallagher, Jake Tiernan, Lauren Gallagher, Lorraine Gallagher and Ella Gallagher.

Knowing how prevalent breast cancer is today, Lauren realised research is key and herself and Jake decided to support the research program at the National Breast Cancer Research Institute based at the University of Galway.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Irish women, 1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. The National Breast Cancer Research Institute helps to improve the diagnosis, treatment options, and outcomes for those who develop breast cancer with the support of people like Lauren, Jake their family and friends.
