Dr Niamh O’Halloran, a recent National Breast Cancer Research Institute funded PhD graduate, won the Plenary Prize at the Sylvester O’Halloran Perioperative Symposium in Limerick in March 2019 for her work on ‘Evaluating the suitability and oncological safety of autologous breast cancer patient derived adipose derived stem cells for use in breast regeneration’. The work was funded by the National Breast Cancer Research Institute and carried out at the Lambe Institute for Translational Research, NUI Galway. The co-authors on this study were Katie Gilligan, Dr Roisin Dwyer, Professor Michael Kerin and the research was supervised by Professor Aoife Lowery. Niamh is continuing her surgical training in the Mater Hospital, Dublin.
