Professor Michael Kerin Joins the Hall of Fame

We are thrilled to share the wonderful news that Professor Michael Kerin, Research Director of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI), will be honoured with the Hall of Fame Award 2025 at the Clare Person of the Year Awards, hosted by the Clare Association Dublin.

A proud Clare native, hailing from Kilnamona, Professor Kerin studied under NBCRI’s founder, the late Professor Fred Given, and was appointed Research Director in 2004. Since then, he has led the expansion of the research team and laboratory at the Lambe Institute, University of Galway, establishing it as one of the world’s leading centres for breast cancer research.

Professor Kerin is being honoured for his outstanding contribution to breast cancer research over the last 40 years. His accomplishments are many; Chair of Surgery at the University of Galway and Director of the Cancer Managed Clinical Academic Network (MCAN) for HSE West and North West. Appointed vice president of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Principal Investigator of Precision Oncology Ireland (POI), All Island Cancer Research Institute (AICRI) and co-investigator of numerous other collaborative cancer research initiatives and in 2024 the University of Galway conferred him with a special Degree, Doctor of Science.

This prestigious Hall of Fame Award recognition is richly deserved, congratulations Professor Kerin. The award will be presented during the Clare Association’s Awards Night and Dinner Dance, taking place at the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon, on Saturday, 6th September.
